ART DIRECTION Top Derm (2020+)
Description
Top Derm is a free mobile game experience that combines gameplay elements with medical resources designed to entertain, refresh, and challenge dermatologists.
A large focus of this experience was to help to create a variety of skin conditions that varied based on an individual’s skin color. We collaborated with institutions, healthcare professionals, and dermatologists all over the world to ensure we represented skin conditions accurately.
SKin Condition Image Generation
For Top Derm , I art directed the lighting/presentation of these images. These skin conditions were all presented in real-time software.
Colin Joyce was the artist I directed to sculpt these images. Medical verification was done both externally and internally by a team of Doctors.

SKin Fitzpatrick Scale
The current standard for skin of color is called the Fitzpatrick scale. It’s basically blocks of color to help derms categorize skin and conditions.
For Top Derm we created a new visual aid that was approved by multiple credible institutions and Dermatologists.
This was used as the base for all of our digital skin creations.

UI Initial STeps - Theme
For Top Derm we focused on the ‘hospital of the future’. We wanted to design something that fit into that space that was futuristic, clean and professional.
I created the initial mockups to get the team rolling.
UI Design Refinement and creation
As the concept process concluded we started to narrow down stronger visuals, colors and visual language. I drove the overall art direction and heavily collaborated with Brian Wing, our UI Director, who drove this project home.
The final result is a ‘Netflix’ inspired home screen that housed a collection of games, sponsored contented and user data.
